A former car dealer in Miami has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for forcibly repossessing a vehicle from a customer. Erik Hadad, previously operating Guru Auto Sales in Miramar, faced federal charges after targeting a young immigrant customer over a missed payment. Unbeknownst to the buyer, the sales agreement included a clause that allowed the finance company to demand repayment if any payments were late within the first two months. This oversight led to a series of events culminating in a dangerous confrontation.

The victim, who had set up automatic payments, experienced a bounced check, triggering a letter from the finance company to Guru Auto Sales demanding the return of the loan amount. Despite being current on his payments, the victim became the target of an aggressive repossession attempt. On December 19, 2023, Hadad followed the customer to the airport, where he aggressively demanded the car keys, even brandishing a holstered gun. The victim managed to escape temporarily but was eventually cornered at a transit station, leading to the surrender of the vehicle.
