Panchkula: Stopped at a drunken driving checkpost in Sector 5, an SUV driven by a drunk man rammed police barricades and then crashed into another vehicle late on Saturday night. Police have arrested the driver and his friend who too was drunk.
Around 11pm, police officials signalled Mahindra XUV 700 bearing registration number PB-22-X-6126 to stop for checking. The driver slowed down the SUV, but then pressed the accelerator, hitting the barricades in the process. Scared of getting caught, the driver tried to reverse his vehicle rashly and hit a Mahindra Thar.
Two Thar occupants came out of their vehicle and started beating up the accused SUV driver. Police intervened and took the accused SUV driver and his friend to Sector-5 police station. The medical exam of the accused was conducted, and the legal proceedings were initiated.
The investigation is under progress, the police said.

Cop injured after SUV ploughs into him at checkpost
A traffic police constable in Gurgaon was seriously injured when he was run over by an SUV that broke past a barricade. The constable and his team were checking for drunk drivers near Hotel Belgium when they saw a Harrier approaching. The driver of the SUV ignored their signal to stop and accelerated through the barricades, hitting the constable. The driver fled the scene, but the police have traced the car and are searching for the driver. The constable is undergoing treatment for his injuries.
