Despite the plethora of videos centered around Exodus' alien species and unexplored worlds, it has been a considerable time since we last got a proper glimpse of the game. Fortunately, studio Archetype Entertainment and publisher Wizards of the Coast are gearing up to showcase more substantial chunks of gameplay, and the new trailer is an absolute must-see.

Unveiling the Epic Journey of Exodus

Weaponry and Skills: A Closer Look at the Arsenal

This new trailer provides us with a more detailed view of the weaponry and skills that we will be utilizing in our battle against the Celestials, the Mara Yama, and a host of other adversaries. Yes, there is indeed a space bear! We are gradually but steadily gaining a deeper understanding of the ambitious story that depicts a twisted future for mankind among the stars and all the surrounding worldbuilding. It all appears to be crafted with great attention to detail and expense, with movie star Matthew McConaughey taking on one of the main roles. The weaponry in Exodus is diverse and powerful, ranging from energy weapons to melee combat tools. Each weapon has its own unique characteristics and playstyle, allowing players to customize their approach to combat. The skills system is equally intricate, offering a wide range of abilities that can be upgraded and combined to create powerful combos. Whether it's using quick dashes to evade enemy attacks or unleashing devastating special attacks, the weaponry and skills in Exodus offer a thrilling combat experience.

Time Dilation: A Fascinating Game Design Aspect

Much like BioWare's iconic sci-fi franchise, Exodus is an action-adventure RPG filled with third-person combat encounters and interactions with non-player characters. However, the main gimmick of Exodus appears to be how time dilation affects the worlds visited by the main cast as they traverse space during their odyssey. This concept adds an extra layer of complexity and tension to the game, as players must navigate through different time zones and deal with the consequences of time dilation. From speeding up time to slow it down, time dilation allows players to gain an advantage in combat or explore different areas at their own pace. It also adds a sense of mystery and wonder to the game world, as players discover how time behaves in different locations. If Archetype can successfully pull off this concept, it will be a game-changer in terms of game design and writing.

Gameplay and Progression: The Usual and the Unique

Expect the usual progression systems found in RPGs, with levels, attributes, and skills that can be upgraded over time. Alongside this, players will have a colorful group of allies to support them in their journey. These allies bring their own unique abilities and personalities to the game, adding depth and variety to the gameplay. However, what sets Exodus apart is its unique take on time dilation and its impact on the game world. This not only affects combat but also influences the exploration and story elements of the game. Players will need to carefully manage their time and resources as they navigate through the different time zones and face various challenges.Exodus is still without a locked launch date or window despite its advanced development. We will be keeping a close eye on it and other upcoming space games as we move into 2025. In the meantime, you can watch the Secret Level short based on the game as part of the Amazon Prime Video anthology series' second batch of episodes.Exodus is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Windows), promising an immersive and thrilling space adventure for players.
