Addressing the Growing Need for Food Assistance
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the issue of food insecurity, with many families struggling to make ends meet. As inflation continues to rise, the cost of essential items has become a significant burden for those living paycheck to paycheck. The Wrightstown Food Cupboard, which coordinates with local churches, has seen a surge in demand for its services, as more and more individuals and families turn to food banks to supplement their limited resources."The average person has no idea of the difficulties that many of our neighbors experience when it comes to paying utility bills and food insecurity," said Gene Epstein, who manages the foundation with his wife, Marlene. "I ask everyone that can help to please do. It can change a person's life for the better."Mobilizing the Community for a Worthy Cause
The Newtown Rotary Club has taken the lead in organizing the Fall Food Drive, with members stationed at the entrances of McCaffrey's Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. They will be collecting both monetary and food donations for the Wrightstown Food Cupboard, as part of the Epstein Food Drive Challenge."We'll collect money and food at the door, but if you can't make it on Saturday, you can go online until next Saturday and make a donation through the Rotary Club's PayPal account," said Rotarian Paul Salvatore. Those who wish to contribute online can simply indicate "Food Drive" as the reason for their donation. Alternatively, they can send a check directly to the Newtown Rotary Club at P.O. Box 123, Wrightstown 18943.The Epstein Foundation's Generous Matching Challenge
The Epstein Food Drive Challenge is a unique opportunity for the community to double the impact of their donations. Through this initiative, every monetary contribution made to the Wrightstown Food Cupboard will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by the Epstein Foundation."The great thing about this challenge is that it will allow the Wrightstown Food Cupboard to buy items that they don't have or are running low on," said Salvatore, who expressed his gratitude to the Epstein Foundation for their unwavering support.Gene Epstein's commitment to helping those in need is evident in his approach. "Gene loves to give and he loves to help people," said Salvatore. "But he also wants others who can afford to give to also make a donation. That's why he issues these challenges. And 100 percent of the money will be going to the food cupboard."The Epstein Food Drive Challenge is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the transformative impact that generous donors can have on the lives of those facing food insecurity. As the Wrightstown Food Cupboard continues to serve as a vital lifeline for those in need, the support of the Epstein Foundation and the Newtown Rotary Club will undoubtedly make a lasting difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.
