The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) recently presented an update to the Middleburg Heights Streets, Utilities, and Railroad Committee. This briefing highlighted ongoing projects aimed at improving stormwater management and wastewater infrastructure, while also introducing cost-saving opportunities for residents. Key initiatives include the construction of detention basins, relief sewers, and drainage solutions. Additionally, several programs have been introduced to help residents reduce their sewer bills through discounts and assistance programs.
In response to pressing local needs, significant efforts are being made to enhance stormwater and wastewater systems in Middleburg Heights. Various projects are underway, addressing critical areas such as flood prevention and infrastructure improvement. These initiatives not only aim to resolve existing issues but also set a foundation for sustainable water management practices.
The Indian Creek Sanitary Relief Sewer project, valued at $8 million, is among the notable undertakings. It aims to alleviate pressure on the existing sewer system. Other projects focus on resolving rear yard drainage problems and implementing sewer lining with advanced flow meters. The Elderdale Drive/Farnum Avenue sewer study is another crucial step toward understanding and addressing specific community challenges. Through these endeavors, NEORSD is making substantial investments in Middleburg Heights’ infrastructure, ensuring long-term benefits for residents.
To assist homeowners and renters, NEORSD has introduced several programs designed to provide financial relief. These initiatives offer various ways to reduce sewer bills, catering to different segments of the community. From seasonal sprinkling programs to property credits, residents now have multiple avenues to explore for savings.
The summer sprinkling program, active from May 1 to September 30, offers discounts based on winter consumption rates. Homeowners can apply for this benefit through a straightforward application process. Additionally, the stormwater residential property credit program rewards those who implement measures to minimize stormwater runoff, potentially resulting in a 25-percent discount for three years. For low-income seniors or disabled homeowners, the homestead program provides a 40-percent reduction on Cleveland Water and NEORSD bills. Furthermore, individuals whose household income falls below 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level can apply for a similar discount. The Crisis Assistance Program offers up to a 50 percent reduction on account balances, capped at $300. NEORSD also extends support for emergency plumbing repairs to low-income homeowners, ensuring comprehensive assistance in times of need. These programs underscore NEORSD’s commitment to supporting the community financially while promoting responsible water usage.
