Empowering Youth, Transforming Lives

Celebrating a Year of the NEO Youth Center

Bright Futures for Youth's NEO Youth Center, a 3,700-square-foot space that opened a year ago, has become a hub of activity and support for young people in the community. The center, made possible through a $500,000 capital campaign, features a café serving hundreds of healthy meals each week, a game area with gaming consoles and a pool table, a music room, a small stage, and a patio. Several hundred young people between the ages of 11 and 25 visit the NEO Youth Center every month, using it as an after-school program where they can connect with peers, develop friendships, and engage in fun, supervised activities.

Expanding Services and Facilities

In addition to the NEO Youth Center, Bright Futures for Youth has been steadily expanding its services and facilities. The organization recently completed the first phase of a new backyard at the campus, which includes a concrete patio and extensive landscaping with flowers, a large lawn area, and trees. The second phase, scheduled to begin in the coming months, will add a small stage and sports court for basketball and pickleball, further enhancing the outdoor space for the community.

Addressing Housing Instability

Bright Futures for Youth also includes the SAFE (Stability, Access, Foundation, Empowerment) program, which helps young people experiencing housing instability in Nevada County. The SAFE program opened a drop-in-center two years ago and has since assisted more than 140 young people facing homelessness, about five times more than initially planned. The program provides clothing, food, and ensures access to counseling and healthcare services, helping these young individuals get back on their feet and achieve stability.

The Friendship Club: Empowering Young Women

The Friendship Club, a comprehensive year-round program that has been in operation for 30 years, provides academic, social, and emotional support for girls and young women. With about 100 girls enrolled, the program is a vital part of Bright Futures for Youth's holistic approach to supporting the youth in the community.

Nutrition and Meal Provision

Bright Futures for Youth has also established a Kitchen and Nutrition Program, serving approximately 13,000 meals during the past year, with the figure expected to reach 20,000 in 2025. This initiative ensures that young people in the organization's three core programs have access to free, healthy meals, addressing a critical need in the community.

Community Support and Fundraising

The growth and success of Bright Futures for Youth would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the local community. The organization's leadership, including Executive Director Jennifer Singer and Board President Greg Bulanti, express their gratitude for the community's generosity and commitment to the organization's mission. To further build on this momentum, Bright Futures for Youth will kick off a six-week fundraising campaign during the community open house, offering donors who become monthly supporters the chance to win a raffle prize.Bright Futures for Youth's comprehensive approach to supporting young people, from after-school programs to housing assistance and nutrition services, has had a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals in Nevada County. As the organization celebrates its milestones and outlines new initiatives, it continues to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for the youth in the community.
