Unlocking Doors to a Thriving Restaurant Career

Diverse Pathways, Boundless Potential

The NRAEF's 2024 scholarship recipients exemplify the breadth and depth of the restaurant industry's career landscape. While many are pursuing traditional culinary arts and hospitality management programs, others are focusing their studies on supply chain management, marketing, and even the establishment of culinary-themed non-profits. This diversity of academic interests underscores the industry's ability to accommodate a wide range of passions and aspirations.Omari Romeo, a 2024 David R. Parsley Supply Chain Scholarship recipient majoring in supply chain management at Howard University, embodies this spirit of innovation. "I am working towards establishing a non-profit comprised of resources specifically aimed at empowering minority students aspiring to reside within the business realm," he shared. "By investing in the next generation, I hope to create a ripple effect of positive change, enabling young people to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society."

Breaking Down Barriers, Empowering Underrepresented Voices

The NRAEF's scholarship program also reflects the restaurant industry's commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion. More than 58 percent of this year's scholars self-identify as part of a community of color, while 61 percent self-identify as female. This remarkable representation underscores the industry's role as a beacon of opportunity for individuals from all backgrounds, challenging the traditional barriers that have often hindered access to higher education and career advancement."NRAEF scholars bring an energy and a drive to succeed that will greatly benefit the restaurant industry in the years ahead," said NRAEF President Rob Gifford. "I'm excited to see how their ideas will grow and change hospitality and restaurants."

Investing in the Future, Empowering Change

The NRAEF's scholarship program is made possible through the generous support of its partners, including American Express, Burger King Foundation, The Coca-Cola Company, and a host of other industry leaders. This collaborative effort to invest in the next generation of restaurant professionals is a testament to the industry's unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and driving positive change.Over the past 37 years, the NRAEF has awarded more than 6,000 scholarships valued at approximately $27 million, underscoring the organization's steadfast dedication to empowering the future of the restaurant industry. These scholarships, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, provide critical financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in restaurant, foodservice, and hospitality-related fields, enabling them to focus on their studies and realize their full potential."By investing in the next generation, I hope to create a ripple effect of positive change, enabling young people to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society," said Omari Romeo, echoing the sentiments of the NRAEF's mission to Attract, Empower, and Advance today's and tomorrow's restaurant and foodservice workforce.
