Impact on Daily Life

John's inability to see clearly has had a profound impact on his daily life. As he mentioned in an interview with Good Morning America, his right eye lost its vision in July due to an infection in the south of France. Four months have gone by, and his left eye is also not in the best condition. This has made it difficult for him to engage in activities such as going to studio recordings. "I can do something like this (the interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don't know, because I can't see a lyric for a start," he said. The slow healing process is a source of frustration, leaving him feeling stuck at the moment.

During the summer, John chose to recuperate at home quietly. He expressed feeling positive about the progress he has made so far in his healing and recovery. His family and an excellent team of doctors and nurses have been taking good care of him, which has given him hope for a full recovery.

Musical Career and "The Devil Wears Prada"

Despite officially retiring from touring in 2023 after decades of live performances, John still has a significant contribution to the music world. He wrote the music for the musical adaptation of "The Devil Wears Prada," based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger and the 2006 movie. This shows his enduring talent and creativity even in the face of adversity.

The musical performance in London was a special event for John. Although he couldn't see the stage as clearly as he would have liked, he was able to hear the music and feel the energy. It was a moment of pride for him to be involved in such a project. "I haven't been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight. So it's hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight," he said. His passion for music shines through even in these challenging times.
