Drivers find several car windows shattered in Metropolis parking lot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Broken windows and cars were rummaged at a popular Nashville parking lot in the Gulch neighborhood. People explained how these break-ins maybe part of a bigger issue.

Drivers Tuesday morning walked up to not one, not two, but at least three shattered car windows in a Metropolis parking lot.

“It’s scary,” Sarah Parsley said.

Parsley was just one of several people who had to dodge piles of broken glass while pulling into to the parking lot at the corner of Laurel Street and 12th Ave South.

“We did have some patrols around, but I guess not last night,” Latoya Miller said.

Miller works at a local restaurant down the street.

“Honestly not shocked, this had happened a couple of times before mostly during the fall of last year,” Miller said.

When daily patrols were added Miller said she thought the break-ins would stop, but instead they hit a lull and now neighbors said at least seven cars were broken into Tuesday morning.

“We have our staff of team members park here at a discounted rate because everywhere else in Nashville and the Gulch is paid parking, so we’d like to offer our team members to be able to park somewhere that was supposed to be safe…but not so much,” Miller said.

I reached out to Metropolis for answers, and they said, “We are working with law enforcement to investigate this matter fully and have already deployed additional security measures.”

“I hope there’s more patrol over here, more would be helpful, that’s scary,” Parsley said.

A Metropolis spokesperson said they believe the security measures they’re already taking will make the parking lot more secure and help solve this issue.
