During an interview with Eurogamer, game director Kenta Kinoshita articulated his perspective on the Eternal Ferrystone. He asserted that the inclusion of this fast travel method does not undermine the original design philosophy of Dragon's Dogma 2. Kinoshita stated that players are not obligated to use the item, and it merely provides an additional choice. He acknowledged that prolonged backtracking can become monotonous for some players, particularly those with limited playtime, who might occasionally need a quick way to reach their objectives. The Eternal Ferrystone addresses this need by offering a convenient alternative for those moments when efficiency is prioritized over immersion.

Kinoshita further elaborated that the game retains its core appeal for those who prefer an authentic adventurer's journey. Players can still opt for a highly immersive experience by traversing the world entirely on foot, embracing every encounter and challenge along the way. Alternatively, they can utilize ox carts, which offer a middle-ground travel option with their own set of risks and rewards. The Eternal Ferrystone, therefore, serves as a third viable option, ensuring that players have diverse choices for navigating the game world without being forced into any particular playstyle. This approach aims to deliver quality-of-life improvements without infringing upon the original, deliberately challenging nature of the game.

However, some players argue that the mere existence of a highly convenient fast travel option, especially one available relatively early in the game, inevitably influences player behavior. The Eternal Ferrystone can be acquired during the "Seat of the Sovran" quest, which occurs fairly early in the main storyline. This early access to unlimited teleportation might inadvertently discourage players from engaging with the more laborious, yet often rewarding, methods of travel that define much of Dragon's Dogma 2's unique charm.
