A recent weekend getaway to Chicago reignited my curiosity about the local dining landscape in the Quad Cities. While exploring the bustling restaurant scene in Chicago, I couldn't help but reflect on what our own region offers. One establishment stood out as a beacon of innovation and quality—Plus Saporis in Bettendorf. This unique restaurant, blending Mediterranean and Latin flavors with New American flair, has become an unexpected gem in the area.

Experience Unmatched Flavor and Quality at Plus Saporis

The Rise of Plus Saporis in Bettendorf

Nestled in the rapidly developing "BettPlex" area near the TBK Sports Complex, Plus Saporis has carved out its niche despite the somewhat generic strip-mall surroundings. The interior, however, exudes warmth with its gray brick walls, slate-toned drywall, and inviting lighting. The restaurant’s commitment to freshness and homemade dishes sets it apart from the typical fast-constructed establishments. The team behind Plus Saporis, also responsible for Hemispheres Bistro, has created a space that feels both welcoming and sophisticated. Our server, Joe, was attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the wine list, which features an impressive selection of Mediterranean wines—a refreshing change from the usual California Cabernets. We chose an Italian Montepulciano, a semi-fruity and pleasantly dry option that paired beautifully with the menu.

Innovative Menu with a Global Twist

The menu at Plus Saporis is a testament to culinary creativity. It showcases a fusion of Mediterranean and Latin influences, complemented by New American touches. Appetizers like homemade pita chips with various dips, topped focaccias, and intriguing starters set the tone for an unforgettable meal. Salad options are hearty and inventive, featuring ingredients such as burrata, halloumi, watermelon, and Marcona almonds. For entrees, the variety is impressive. From pasta dishes and seafood to kebobs and 10-inch pizzas, there's something for every palate. Prices range from $20 to $40 per entrée, offering excellent value for the quality and freshness of the ingredients. The Dover sole stands out as the most expensive item, but the rest falls comfortably within reasonable dining budgets.

Memoirs of a Memorable Meal

Our evening began with two standout appetizers—the grilled octopus and saganaki. The octopus was perfectly charred, tender, and served on a carrot puree with house-pickled fennel and cherry tomatoes. Its flavor was unparalleled, a testament to the chef's skill. The saganaki, Greek flaming cheese, was a spectacle to behold, flambéed table-side and extinguished with fresh lemon juice. Paired with seasoned pita chips and kalamata olives, it was a delightful start. For dinner, we opted for the bass and Iberico pork with gnocchi. The bass, pan-fried to perfection, rested on an onion cream sauce with charred scallions and crispy pancetta. It was light yet satisfying, a perfect choice for a chilly evening. The Iberico Pluma, served with herbed gnocchi and brown butter, was nothing short of exceptional. The pork was tender and well-seasoned, confirming Plus Saporis' expertise with this Spanish delicacy.

Elevated Comfort Food with a Twist

Every dish at Plus Saporis is thoughtfully prepared, showcasing a balance between comfort and adventure. The restaurant excels in seasoning, ensuring each bite is flavorful and memorable. Unlike many local eateries, Plus Saporis doesn't shy away from bold flavors, making each visit a culinary journey worth repeating. My friend was so impressed that she returned for lunch just two days later. For me, Plus Saporis has become the most exciting new dining destination in the Quad Cities. If you're seeking a restaurant that delivers big-city quality in a welcoming setting, do not miss out on Plus Saporis.
