A Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy has resigned following an incident where he collided with a civilian's vehicle while reportedly viewing explicit content on his personal phone. The internal investigation revealed that Deputy Tristan Macomber was not adhering to proper driving protocols and had provided misleading information about the circumstances leading to the crash. The deputy, traveling southbound on County Road 435, struck the rear of a stationary vehicle. The impact was significant enough to trigger the airbag in Macomber’s patrol car. Initially, Macomber claimed that the brakes locked up due to a malfunctioning anti-lock braking system (ABS) light. However, body camera footage contradicted this statement, showing that he was holding a cell phone just before the collision. Further investigation revealed that he was viewing inappropriate images rather than responding to work-related messages as initially stated.

Macomber admitted during a subsequent interview that he was looking at pornographic material on his personal phone, which contributed significantly to the accident.
