New Comic Series "Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft" Unveils Thrilling Horrors
The highly anticipated comic series, "Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft," written by the talented Amy Chu, with striking line art by Ariela Kristantina and vibrant colors by Arif Prianto, is scheduled to debut on September 16. This new saga builds upon the lore established in "Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft," a critically acclaimed D&D 5th Edition sourcebook published in 2021, and its 5.5e revision, "Ravenloft: The Horrors Within," released this past June.
The narrative centers on Ezmerelda d'Avenir, a skilled monster hunter and protégé of the renowned Rudolph van Richten, as she endeavors to protect the world from ominous forces. Guided by the spectral presence of Rudolph's son, Erasmus van Richten, Ezmerelda's journey commences in the chilling, ice-bound domain of Lamordia. Here, she finds herself ensnared by the sinister Darklord Viktra Mordenheim, who intends to exploit Ezmerelda in her grotesque experiments. Ezmerelda must orchestrate her escape to continue her crucial mission, aided by a mysterious newcomer whose timely arrival may prove pivotal to her survival and the success of her quest. Polygon has offered an exclusive preview of the first five pages of the inaugural issue, whetting the appetites of fans eagerly awaiting its release.
This series expands Dark Horse Comics' growing collection of D&D titles, which already includes "The Fallbacks" and a recent series charting the escapades of legendary figures like Mordenkainen and Tasha in the Forgotten Realms. The first issue of "Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft" will also be available with a selection of stunning alternate covers crafted by celebrated artists such as Guillem March, Riley Rossmo, Francesco Francavilla, Todor Hristov, and Angela Wu, offering collectors and fans a variety of artistic interpretations to choose from.
The expansion of the Ravenloft narrative into a comic series is a testament to the enduring appeal and depth of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. It provides an exciting new medium for fans to immerse themselves in the dark and thrilling tales of the Domains of Dread. The continued exploration of characters like Ezmerelda and the introduction of new adversaries like Viktra Mordenheim underscore the creative vitality of this setting. This comic adaptation not only enriches the existing lore but also opens doors for new audiences to discover the captivating horror and adventure that Ravenloft has to offer.
