Danone Expands UK Dairy Market with Innovative Skyr Range

Global dairy leader Danone is set to introduce an innovative range of Icelandic-style yogurt products to the United Kingdom, aiming to tap into the rising consumer demand for high-protein, low-fat options. This new collection features a variety of formats and flavors designed to meet the growing preference for natural yogurts. The launch underscores Danone's commitment to health-conscious innovations and aligns with the current market trend toward simpler, more transparent food choices. With its thick, creamy texture and impressive nutritional profile, this product line promises to offer consumers a delicious and nutritious option.

Danone's new Skyr offerings are crafted using only two ingredients: milk and live cultures. These products stand out not only for their simplicity but also for their significant protein content. Each serving of the Natural variant provides 14 grams of protein, while the Strawberry version offers 12 grams, both without any added sugars. Additionally, the Skyr Drinks, available in Vanilla and Strawberry flavors, deliver an impressive 16 grams of protein per serving and can remain unrefrigerated for up to four hours, making them highly convenient for on-the-go consumption.

The introduction of Danone Skyr responds to the noticeable surge in interest for natural yogurts within the UK market. Over the past two years, this category has witnessed a remarkable 51% increase in value. Inspired by the success of Skyr in France, where it contributed to a 29% volume growth in the yogurt sector in 2019, Danone is confident that the UK market will embrace these new products enthusiastically. Zack Cunningham, head of category and commercial planning for dairy at Danone UK & Ireland, highlighted the exciting moment for the UK market, noting the strong momentum behind natural yogurts.

The Skyr range will be rolled out nationwide, starting with major retailers such as Tesco, Ocado, and Sainsbury’s. Various pack sizes and formats will be available, including larger tubs and single-serving options, catering to different consumer needs. The product line includes 800g and 480g Natural variants, 150g Natural and Strawberry pots, and 270ml Vanilla and Strawberry drinks, each priced competitively to appeal to a wide audience.

As Danone ventures into this promising segment of the UK dairy market, the company aims to capitalize on the increasing consumer focus on health and wellness.
