In a significant step towards fostering food equity, Dane County has officially opened applications for its Partner in Equity Food Project Grants. This initiative aims to promote fair access to nutritious food across the region. With a total of $40,000 available this year, the county encourages both individuals and smaller organizations to participate. The grants are designed to support projects that enhance food accessibility, bolster local agriculture, reduce waste, and involve community input in food development. County Executive Melissa Agard emphasized the importance of these grants in achieving broader community goals.

The Partner in Equity Food Project Grants represent a pivotal effort by Dane County to address critical issues surrounding food distribution and sustainability. Melissa Agard, the County Executive, highlighted the program's role in advancing equity and creating opportunities within the community. "These grants enable us to collaborate with various organizations to ensure healthier food options are more accessible," she explained. "We also aim to strengthen our regional agricultural systems and minimize food waste by redistributing quality rescued food."

To qualify for funding, proposals must focus on one or more key areas. These include improving access to healthy, locally sourced, and culturally relevant food; enhancing regional agricultural practices and easing land access for cultivation; reducing food waste through innovative redistribution methods; and ensuring that community voices play a crucial role in shaping local food initiatives. Each of these objectives aligns with the county's broader mission to create a more sustainable and equitable food system.

Through this grant program, Dane County seeks to build stronger partnerships with local organizations. By supporting projects that directly impact food security and sustainability, the county aims to foster a healthier, more resilient community. Individuals and smaller organizations are particularly encouraged to apply, as their involvement can lead to meaningful changes at the grassroots level. Interested parties can find more information and submit applications via the county’s official website.
