Cult Gaia founder Jasmin Larian recently hosted a dazzling Nowruz celebration at her historically significant Beverly Hills residence, once famously owned by Elvis Presley. This annual event, marking the Persian New Year, serves as a cherished opportunity for Larian to share her cultural heritage with a curated guest list of friends and family. The festivities seamlessly blended age-old traditions with contemporary flair, creating an atmosphere of joy, renewal, and togetherness, culminating in an opulent feast and an energetic dance party.
The spring equinox ushered in the evening's festivities in Los Angeles, setting a picturesque backdrop for Larian's highly anticipated gathering. For several years, this Nowruz celebration has been a highlight on her social calendar, a testament to her dedication to preserving and sharing her Persian roots. Guests, including notable figures such as Shanina Shaik, Sara Sampaio, Sarah Shahi, Aurora James, Mimi Cutrell, Ryan Destiny, Chelsea Neman Nassib, and Noor Pahlavi—daughter of the exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi—arrived adorned in Cult Gaia's latest Spring collection, embodying the brand's distinctive aesthetic.
Upon arrival, attendees were enveloped in the enchanting melodies of Persian classical music, performed live by a sitar player. These ethereal notes wafted across the tranquil koi pond that encircles a Japanese-style teahouse, a serene focal point of the estate. This year's celebration introduced several fresh elements, enhancing the sensory experience. A striking all-yellow floral arrangement adorned the space, while goldfish gracefully swam beneath transparent, glass-topped tables, adding a whimsical touch to the decor. The ambiance was further elevated by a dynamic soundtrack featuring Shirzan (Lioness) from Cult Gaia's recent NYFW debut, setting an exhilarating tone for the culinary delights to come.
The evening's gastronomic journey commenced with luxurious caviar, presented in bespoke tins bearing the inscription "Gaia Caviar," accompanied by sumac-dusted potato chips and delicate saffron crème fraîche. This exquisite starter was followed by a Shirazi interpretation of panzanella, ingeniously incorporating pomegranate seeds, walnuts, and crispy Barbari bread shards, offering a delightful twist on the classic Italian dish. The main course was a lavish spread of traditional Persian fare, boasting a vibrant sabzi platter, two varieties of tahdig, and an assortment of succulent lamb, chicken, and beef dishes. Larian noted a subtle shift in this year's presentation, opting for a more refined approach while still maintaining the event's signature abundance.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the atmosphere grew increasingly vibrant. Shots began to circulate, and the music transitioned to more spirited selections, with Erfan Tahmasbi's Gelooband giving way to Sandy's Dokhtare Ahvazi. Chairs were pushed aside, inhibitions shed, and the dinner seamlessly transformed into a lively dance party, further energized by the appearance of jewel-toned, arak-infused barberry tarts. Amidst the joyous din and laughter, Larian expressed her sentiments, sharing that the gathering fostered a profound sense of hope and happiness among all present.
The annual Nowruz event at Jasmin Larian's Beverly Hills estate continues to be a vibrant testament to cultural exchange and shared celebration, blending the rich heritage of the Persian New Year with a modern, fashion-forward sensibility. It serves as a cherished tradition for Larian and her guests, offering a memorable evening of exquisite cuisine, enchanting music, and heartfelt camaraderie, all set within the elegant confines of a home steeped in Hollywood history.
