From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., fifteen deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and four officers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) carried out 110 traffic stops along Highway 98. This operation, named Operation Burnout, targeted various unsafe driving practices such as street racing, speeding, and driving under the influence.

The operation led to the arrest of six individuals for street racing, including four juveniles, with four vehicles impounded for thirty days. Additional arrests included one individual for driving under the influence, another for driving without a license, and one more for reckless driving. Notably, a 17-year-old suspect from Fort Walton Beach was apprehended after fleeing through the Silversands Outlet Mall parking lot. The suspect crashed into a WCSO deputy's vehicle while attempting to exit onto Highway 98; fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Sheriff Michael Adkinson emphasized the seriousness of the situation, warning drivers that participating in street racing would result in the loss of their vehicles for a month. He expressed gratitude to the Florida Highway Patrol for their collaboration during this critical operation. Among those arrested were residents from Fort Walton Beach and Miramar Beach, ranging in age from 17 to 48 years old, facing charges including fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and racing on public highways.
