Inspiring Generations of Basketball Players and Coaches

A Lifelong Passion for the Sport

T.J. Perry's journey in basketball began at a young age, as he served as a manager for the Skyline varsity basketball teams during his elementary school years. His dedication and enthusiasm for the sport only grew as he became a star player for the Skyline Vikings and later helped the Section High School Lions win the 2002-03 Class 1A state championship under the guidance of head coach Ronnie McCarver.

After his playing days, Perry's passion for basketball led him to the coaching ranks, where he became McCarver's top assistant at both Section and Skyline. For nearly a decade, he played a crucial role in the success of the girls and boys basketball programs, helping Skyline win the Class 1A Girls state championship in the 2020-21 season. During that same season, Perry also served as the Skyline varsity boys head coach, leading the Vikings to a 22-9 record, an area tournament championship, and a berth in the Class 1A Northeast Regional.

Embracing the Next Challenge: College Basketball

In June 2022, Perry made the decision to take his coaching career to the next level, accepting a position as the Director of Player Development for the Samford University Men's Basketball program. It's a blessing." He also acknowledged the support and guidance he had received from Coach McCarver and the countless players he had mentored over the years, stating, "I'm thankful to Coach McCarver and all the kids that have played for me. I'm very appreciative to everybody that's supported me. A lot of little things added up to make this (opportunity at Samford) happen."
