Flip & Tow models have reportedly caused at least twelve instances of fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations. Sold between January 2019 and January 2025, the affected coolers were available in various retail outlets both online and in-store. Consumers are advised to cease using these products immediately and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle. While no injuries have been reported in Canada, the recall extends to units sold there and in Mexico.

The CPSC's announcement highlights the potential dangers posed by the tow handle mechanism, which can trap and crush users' fingertips against the cooler body. This defect poses significant risks of amputation and crushing injuries. Affected models include all 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. A circular pattern with an arrow indicating the month and the last two digits of the year will help verify eligibility.

These coolers were available in a variety of color combinations and can be identified by their specific model numbers, which are listed on the CPSC website or found on a label underneath the cooler. Retailers such as Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s, and numerous other physical stores nationwide carried these products. Online platforms like Amazon.com and Igloocoolers.com also sold the affected coolers. The CPSC urges immediate action from consumers who own these potentially hazardous items.
