In a significant development for transportation infrastructure, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has embarked on the construction of the Hepu-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway. This project is set to create an efficient and swift connection between the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, the Pearl River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The railway, spanning 139.33 kilometers with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, will particularly enhance connectivity within Guangxi, fostering economic integration and strategic development.

Construction Kicks Off on Vital Transportation Projects

In the heart of autumn's golden hues, December 29, 2024, marked a pivotal day for transportation infrastructure in Guangxi. The Hepu-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway section within Guangxi officially commenced construction. Stretching over 62.68 kilometers in the Beihai area, this high-speed rail line is designed to operate at an impressive speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Upon completion, it will serve as a crucial artery connecting the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone with the Pearl River Delta and the GBA, significantly boosting regional cooperation and economic integration.

Simultaneously, the Longmen Bridge, the longest sea-crossing bridge in Guangxi, opened to traffic. Spanning 7.637 kilometers, this six-lane highway bridge reduces travel time between Fangchenggang Port and Qinzhou Port from 1.5 hours to just 25 minutes. Designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, the bridge enhances maritime connectivity and facilitates faster trade and logistics.

Adding to the region's transport milestones, the Nanning-Yulin section of the Nanning-Zhuhai High-Speed Railway also opened on Monday. This 193-kilometer stretch slashes the travel time between Nanning and Yulin from one hour and 44 minutes to a mere 48 minutes. As part of the broader Nanning-Zhuhai High-Speed Railway, which spans approximately 648 kilometers, this segment plays a vital role in enhancing the regional rail network and promoting socio-economic development.

These projects underscore Guangxi's strategic importance as the only western Chinese region directly connected to the GBA via land, sea, and river channels. By accelerating its integration into the GBA, Guangxi aims to become a key hub for regional development and economic growth.

From a journalist's perspective, these developments signify not only advancements in transportation but also a significant leap towards sustainable and efficient regional connectivity. They highlight the commitment to modernizing infrastructure and fostering economic collaboration, setting the stage for a future where seamless travel and rapid economic integration are the norm. These projects promise to transform Guangxi into a vibrant and strategically important region, bridging the gap between western China and the prosperous coastal areas.
