The new annex in Colony Ridge, located just south of Plum Grove, broke ground in October 2024 and has been moving ahead of schedule, thanks to favorable weather conditions and efficient work crews. The facility, set to be completed within four to five months, will house offices for several county departments, enhancing services for the growing community.

In the picturesque landscape of Colony Ridge, nestled near Cottonwood Elementary School, the construction of a new 6,800-square-foot annex is well underway. This ambitious project, situated on CR 3849 adjacent to the Santa Fe Activities Building, is being developed on two acres of land generously donated by local developers. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 at a cost of $4.677 million, the annex aims to provide improved facilities for various county offices.

The structural steel framework has already been erected, with the roof and ductwork installed. Crews are now preparing to install exterior walls, followed by electrical and mechanical systems. The final stages will include drywall, flooring, painting, doors, and cabinetry. Despite a close call with tornado winds last week, which narrowly missed the site, the project remains on track.

Jim Snyder, senior vice president and regional director for White Construction’s Houston office, expressed satisfaction with the progress. "We've had excellent cooperation from the weather and our teams have been working efficiently," he noted. The annex is expected to house the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Pct. 6 Constable's Office, and the Permits Department upon completion, with future plans to accommodate the Tax Assessor-Collector.

Burns Architecture designed the annex as part of Liberty County's broader initiative to expand its facilities and better serve the increasing population in the area. This marks the fourth such facility in the county, joining existing locations in Cleveland, Liberty, and Dayton. White Construction has a history of successful collaborations with Liberty County, having previously worked on the law enforcement center on SH 146 north of Liberty.
