An engaging community event at the Dream Come True Playground brought together families for an afternoon filled with learning and fun. Organized by the Harrisonburg Fire Department in collaboration with Safe Kids Day, attendees enjoyed interactive activities such as a Touch-a-Truck exhibit and sweet treats while gaining valuable insights into safety practices for the upcoming summer months. Tori Tucker, the department’s risk reduction education specialist, emphasized the significance of preparing for safe travels during the busy season.
As the summer travel season approaches, ensuring child safety becomes paramount. Tucker highlighted the importance of checking car seats and understanding varying state laws regarding child safety measures. She urged parents to remain vigilant about supervision when visiting water-based destinations like pools or beaches. Tucker noted that accidents can happen swiftly, making proactive measures crucial for protecting children from potential hazards.
In addition to the recent event, Tucker announced an upcoming initiative on July 9th, titled Smoke Alarm and Free Pizza Night. This program invites residents to enjoy complimentary pizza from Cicis while receiving essential home safety checks. Fire department personnel will visit homes to inspect smoke alarms, reinforcing their commitment to community safety. Such initiatives reflect a proactive approach towards fostering a secure environment where families can thrive and enjoy the summer safely.
