An engaging evening dedicated to fostering a love for reading took place recently in York County, where Newberry Elementary School collaborated with BAPS Motor Speedway. This unique event, titled "Racing into Reading," drew an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 400 attendees despite the unfavorable weather conditions. The initiative aimed to inspire children by connecting their passion for racing with the joy of books. Families were invited to participate actively, creating a more meaningful experience than merely sending funds for book purchases.

The partnership between the local school and the motor speedway has been thriving for three years, emphasizing community involvement and education. Kolten Gouse, General Manager of BAPS Motor Speedway, expressed that while introducing people to racing is significant, nurturing students' reading skills holds even greater importance. During the event, children eagerly explored various literary offerings, finding treasures that sparked their imagination. Emma Hudak, a student, was thrilled about her selection, "Gabby’s Dollhouse: Treasure Hunt," while Piper Rea shared her excitement over an "Inside Out 2" graphic novel and her brother's choice, a Dog Band book.

Such events not only promote literacy but also strengthen community bonds through shared experiences. Jessica Pines, a kindergarten teacher at Newberry, marveled at the students' enthusiasm for books, describing it as phenomenal. The collaboration exemplifies how integrating diverse interests like racing can invigorate educational programs. With plans to continue this successful partnership, BAPS Motor Speedway and Newberry Elementary School are paving the way for future generations to embrace learning and community spirit wholeheartedly.
