As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of togetherness and celebration often takes center stage. However, for some individuals and families in Lincoln, Nebraska, the joy of the holidays can be overshadowed by the struggle to put food on the table. Empowering the Community to Fight Hunger, One Donation at a Time

Partnering with Local Grocers to Simplify Giving

From November 1st through the end of the year, the Food Bank of Lincoln is collaborating with local grocery stores to make it easier than ever for the community to contribute. By shopping at any Russ's Market in Lincoln, customers can conveniently grab a pre-packed donation bag or pick up additional items to donate directly at the store. After making their purchase, they can simply leave the bag and items at the front of the store, where they will be collected and delivered to the Food Bank."It's really easy; you can make it part of your shopping trip," explains Michaella Kumke, the CEO of the Food Bank of Lincoln. "It's nothing that you have to do above and beyond a visit that you're already making."In addition to the physical donation bags, shoppers can also contribute through donation scan cards available at the registers and throughout the stores. These cards allow individuals to donate $1, $5, or $10, which will translate to 2, 10, or 20 meals, respectively, for those in need.

Volunteering to Ensure Donations Reach Those Who Need Them Most

For those who may not be able to contribute financially, the Food Bank of Lincoln is also seeking volunteers to assist with the holiday food drive initiatives. These volunteers will be assigned to specific store locations and tasked with making weekly visits to collect the donated items and transport them back to the Food Bank. This ensures that the donations can be quickly processed and distributed to the community in time for the holidays."We're also looking for volunteers to help with the holiday food drive portion of these two campaigns," Kumke emphasizes. "Which means they would be assigned a designated store location and they'll make weekly visits to pick up the donated items and bring them back to the food bank, so they can get into our facility and right back out to neighbors' hands in time for the holidays."

Accepting a Variety of Non-Perishable and Personal Care Items
