In the heart of Monterey County, a remarkable organization is making a profound difference in the lives of medically fragile children and their families. Coastal Kids Home Care, a nonprofit agency, has been providing comprehensive care and support to these vulnerable individuals since 2005, ensuring they receive the specialized attention they deserve in the comfort of their own homes.

Unlocking the Potential of Every Child

A Lifeline for Families in Need

Coastal Kids Home Care is more than just a healthcare provider; it is a beacon of hope for families navigating the challenges of caring for a child with complex medical needs. The agency's team of skilled nurses, social workers, and therapists work tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the personalized care and support they require, empowering them to reach their full potential. One such family is the Consoli's, whose 2-year-old daughter, Ellie, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy earlier this year. Ellie's journey has been marked by both adversity and triumph, and Coastal Kids Home Care has been by her side every step of the way. "Coastal Kids has been with her ever since," says Denise Consoli, Ellie's mother. "They've been a lifeline for our family."

Expanding the Scope of Care

Since its inception in 2005, Coastal Kids Home Care has grown exponentially, now serving over 500 patients each year across Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and south Santa Clara counties. The agency's services have expanded far beyond basic nursing and therapy, now encompassing a comprehensive suite of support, including art, music, and massage therapies, palliative care, and counseling for the entire family."My dream was to set up an agency that allowed me and other nurses who really cared about kids to just go out and see the children," says Margy Mayfield, the founder of Coastal Kids Home Care. "I never dreamed that it would get to this size and to be able to provide all the services that we are."

Fostering Community and Connection

Caring for a child with a medical condition can be an isolating experience, but Coastal Kids Home Care is working to change that. The agency's community events, such as the annual Coastal Kids Home Care Fall Harvest event, provide vital opportunities for families to connect, share experiences, and find support in one another."Our goal is to put families together so they can network and get support from each other," says Mayfield. "When a child is born with a congenital condition or diagnosed with a serious illness, the whole family is affected. Events like this offer a chance for them to engage in a bit of Halloween fun and find the community they need."

Empowering Families, Transforming Lives

At the heart of Coastal Kids Home Care's mission is a deep commitment to empowering families and transforming the lives of the children they serve. Through their comprehensive suite of services and unwavering support, the agency is making a tangible difference in the lives of those they touch. For Ellie Consoli, the impact of Coastal Kids Home Care has been profound. In addition to the skilled nursing and therapy services she receives, the agency has also provided her family with the tools and resources they need to help Ellie thrive. "She just got those AFOS (orthopedic leg braces) in May and Coastal Kids is really great about letting us borrow equipment like this little walker," says Denise Consoli. The Consoli family's story is just one of many that illustrates the transformative power of Coastal Kids Home Care. By putting families first and tailoring their services to the unique needs of each child, the agency is redefining the standard of care for medically fragile children, one life at a time.
