Most Dallas residents were disheartened to learn that CitySquare was set to close this year. This news had a profound impact, instilling fear of hunger and the loss of shelter options for some. Preserving Hope in Dallas with CitySquare

CitySquare's Closure and Its Implications

Most Dallasites were deeply saddened by the announcement of CitySquare's impending closure. This nonprofit's shutdown meant more than just the end of a facility; it brought forth the fear of going hungry and facing the uncertainty of losing shelter. The news spread like wildfire, leaving many in the community worried about the well-being of those who relied on CitySquare's services.Despite the setback, the careful planning in place ensured that the services would continue seamlessly during the holiday season. This was a ray of hope in an otherwise challenging time.

The Stewpot's Role in the Transition

On November 22nd, operations at CitySquare came to a halt. The onsite Food Pantry and Neighbor Resource Center services were initially scheduled to be transferred to The Stewpot on December 2nd. The Stewpot, a community ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, offers a wide range of services including free meals, housing programs, a food recovery program for homeless Dallasites, and various youth and family programs. If the congregation approves the purchase, The Stewpot will move its operations from its longstanding downtown location on Young Street to CitySquare's former facility. This transition holds great significance for the community, as it ensures the continuation of essential services.

Food for the Holidays: Ensuring Support

Although the delay in the building transfer was unexpected, CitySquare quickly took action. By partnering with South Dallas nonprofits such as Crossroads, Empowering the Masses, North Texas Food Bank, and of course, The Stewpot, they were able to ensure that their neighbors received the food and resources they needed during the holiday season.CitySquare and The Stewpot remain committed to the successful sale of the building and the continuation of the Neighbor Resource Center and Food Pantry. This dedication is evident in their efforts to provide support and stability during these challenging times. For those interested in serving, there are several ways to get involved. Volunteers can offer their time between December 3rd and December 20th, share transition information, or learn more about the Food Pantry's operating hours. The Food Pantry and Neighbor Resource Center, located at 1610 S. Malcolm X Blvd. in Dallas, are open for business without the need for appointments.
