St. Mary’s Food Bank has launched a citrus donation initiative, welcoming contributions of various citrus fruits such as grapefruit, lemons, tangerines, and oranges until the end of April. The nonprofit organization is actively collecting these donations at two locations in Phoenix and Surprise during specified hours. Additionally, special donation events are scheduled for early February at churches in Sun City and Arcadia.

The food bank aims to enhance its inventory with fresh produce through this campaign. Donors can drop off their citrus fruits at designated bins outside the facilities or receive assistance from staff and volunteers for unloading. These efforts underscore the community's role in supporting local food banks and ensuring that nutritious food reaches those in need.

Convenient Drop-off Locations for Citrus Contributions

Donors have multiple options for contributing citrus fruits to St. Mary’s Food Bank. Two main sites are available for drop-offs: one in Phoenix and another in Surprise. Each location offers specific operating hours designed to accommodate donors’ schedules. Outside each facility, clearly marked bins await the arrival of citrus donations. Staff and volunteers are on hand to assist with unloading fruits from vehicles, ensuring a seamless donation process.

In Phoenix, the food bank welcomes citrus donations between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at its address on North 31st Avenue. Meanwhile, in Surprise, individuals can donate citrus fruits from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the facility on West Elm Street. This arrangement provides flexibility for donors to choose the most convenient time and place to contribute. By participating, community members play a vital role in bolstering the food bank’s supply of fresh produce, which is essential for supporting families in need.

Special Weekend Donation Events Highlight Community Engagement

To further facilitate citrus donations, St. Mary’s Food Bank has organized Super Citrus Saturday events. These gatherings take place at two church locations in early February, encouraging greater community involvement. The events offer extended hours for donations, making it easier for residents to participate. Such initiatives highlight the collaborative spirit between local organizations and the community in addressing food insecurity.

The first event occurs at Desert Garden United Church of Christ in Sun City, while the second takes place at Shepherd of the Hills in Arcadia. Both venues will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on February 1 and February 8. These special days provide an opportunity for community members to come together, donate citrus fruits, and support the food bank’s mission. By fostering connections and increasing awareness, these events strengthen the network of support for those facing food challenges. Through collective effort, the community can make a significant impact on improving access to nutritious food.
