French automaker Citroen is set to launch an electric van version of its popular e-C3 supermini. This strategic move aims to cater to buyers who previously favored discontinued models like the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsavan. With incentives such as VAT removal and the Plug-in Van Grant, the starting price for this eco-friendly vehicle could be as low as £15,035. Set for release in mid-April, the e-C3 van will compete minimally with other options, like the Dacia Spring Cargo. Positioned uniquely within Citroen's lineup, it bridges the gap between the Ami Cargo and larger vans like the E-Berlingo.

The new e-C3 van features a robust 44kWh battery pack, offering an impressive range of 200 miles. This surpasses its passenger counterpart slightly due to structural modifications, including the absence of rear seats. Charging capabilities remain efficient, supporting up to 100kW DC fast charging, enabling a significant charge boost in just 26 minutes. Additionally, a 7.6kW onboard charger ensures flexibility for slower charging methods.

Designed primarily for urban delivery professionals, the e-C3 van boasts a payload capacity of 494kg and a cargo space of 1.2m². Innovations include a mesh bulkhead separating the load area from the cabin and privacy-enhancing blanked-out rear windows. Despite being a commercial vehicle, the e-C3 van retains many premium features from its passenger variant, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen interface with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a DAB digital radio, and Bluetooth functionality.

Under the hood, the e-C3 van carries over the same powerful 111bhp electric motor found in the passenger car. This setup ensures comparable performance metrics, maintaining a 0-62mph acceleration time of 10.4 seconds. However, the top speed has been slightly adjusted to 82mph to optimize energy efficiency.

This introduction by Citroen marks a significant step towards electrifying the light commercial vehicle sector. By combining affordability, advanced technology, and practicality, the e-C3 van promises to redefine urban delivery logistics while contributing positively to environmental sustainability.
