In a remarkable achievement, three members of the Charlotte 49ers have been honored with selection to the 2024-25 Academic All-District Women’s Tennis team. Recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), Lucia Aranda, Shona Nakano, and Sara Suchankova were celebrated not only for their impressive academic records but also for their pivotal contributions to the team's on-court success. With GPAs exceeding 3.67, these athletes demonstrated an exceptional balance between academics and athletics.
The trio played crucial roles in driving the Charlotte Women’s Tennis team forward. Lucia Aranda excelled both statistically and strategically, tying Ni Xi for the highest number of overall victories (33) and leading the team in singles wins (19). Primarily positioned at the No. 3 slot, she achieved an impressive 11-1 record. Partnered with Ni Xi, Shona Nakano secured the second-highest doubles win count (18) while adding 12 singles victories to her tally.
Sara Suchankova further strengthened the team's performance, primarily playing at the top of Charlotte's singles lineup. She amassed 12 individual match wins and contributed significantly with 14 tandem victories, placing third on the team. Notably, her eight wins at the No. 1 position led the 49ers. This accomplishment adds to Aranda's previous recognition, as she was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team last year, continuing a streak where four members of the program were acknowledged.
Beyond their athletic prowess, these students exemplify the values of dedication and excellence in both studies and sports. Their achievements underscore the commitment of the Charlotte Women’s Tennis program to fostering well-rounded individuals who excel in all aspects of university life.
