The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has unveiled its weekly baseball honorees for games contested between March 10 and March 16. Among those recognized are Joey Appino, a junior hitter from Carroll University, and Bryce Schaum, a senior pitcher from Carthage College. Both athletes showcased remarkable skills during their respective performances. Appino dominated at the plate with an impressive batting average while contributing significantly to his team's offensive output. Meanwhile, Schaum set a new benchmark in strikeouts, demonstrating exceptional control and dominance on the mound. These accolades highlight the ongoing competitive spirit within collegiate baseball.

Joey Appino, hailing from Loves Park, Illinois, made waves during Carroll University's Florida road trip last week. Over four matches against formidable opponents, he accumulated nine hits, including five extra-base knocks. This performance led to a robust .600 batting average for the week. Beyond just hitting, Appino also contributed defensively and strategically by scoring eight runs and swiping three bases. His week started with two successful base-steals against Wisconsin-Whitewater, followed by a powerful home run against Edgewood and a crucial double in a victory over Wisconsin-Stout. Such consistency marked him as one of the top hitters in the league this season.

Bryce Schaum’s performance was equally commendable. The Munster, Indiana native established a career milestone when he struck out 16 batters in a seven-inning game against Crown College. This achievement not only ranks among the highest strikeout totals in Division III but also underscored Schaum's ability to dominate opposing lineups. By throwing 104 pitches and allowing just one walk, Schaum earned his 12th career victory, showcasing his seasoned approach and command over the game. His effectiveness in neutralizing batters through precise pitching was evident as more than half of the 29 batters faced were retired via strikeouts.
