Ensuring Sweet Dreams: Sleep in Heavenly Peace's Mission to Provide Beds for Every Child
Sleep is a fundamental necessity for a child's well-being, yet many families struggle to provide a safe and comfortable place for their children to rest. This is where the nonprofit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace steps in, dedicated to furnishing households with not just bed frames, but all the essentials needed for a good night's sleep.Transforming Lives, One Bed at a Time
Addressing the Pressing Need for Beds
Sleep in Heavenly Peace was founded in 2012 with a simple yet impactful mission: "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town." The organization's humble beginnings in an Idaho garage have since blossomed into a global movement, with over 300 chapters across the United States and a presence in four countries. In the last 12 years, they have provided over 140,000 beds to children who previously lacked a proper sleeping space. The need, however, remains ever-present. Thousands of youth continue to sleep on couches, air mattresses, and floors, including in the Pahrump area. Sleep in Heavenly Peace recognizes the critical role a comfortable bed plays in a child's physical, emotional, and mental development, and they are committed to addressing this pressing issue.Mobilizing for Bunks Across America
Each year, Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapters across the country come together for a massive undertaking known as Bunks Across America. This nationwide initiative aims to engage 15,000 volunteers to construct and deliver a staggering 8,000 beds in a single day. The Nye County Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter is proud to be a part of this ambitious effort, but they cannot achieve this goal alone."Bunks Across America is set for this Saturday, and this is our largest build of the year, with all the chapters joining in and building beds with their communities," says Nye County Sleep in Heavenly Peace President Carmen Murzyn. "We'd love for everyone to come out and lend a hand. We'll have a barbecue and plenty of water to keep our volunteers fueled and hydrated."The local chapter's Bunks Across America bed build is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 14th, at 2731 S. Woodchips Road. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, as the organization will provide on-site training. Participants are also encouraged to bring new sets of twin-size sheets, blankets, or pillows to contribute to the cause.Community Partnerships Fuel the Mission
Sleep in Heavenly Peace has been actively growing its partnerships throughout the community, with businesses and organizations stepping up to support the nonprofit's mission. One such partner is the Pahrump Elks Lodge No. 2796, which will be hosting a special donation dinner this week to generate funds for the purchase of materials needed to construct bed frames, mattresses, and other essentials."We're very excited and grateful to the Elks for putting this together for us," Murzyn enthuses. "It's going to be a donation spaghetti dinner, for $10 a plate, and there'll be a side auction and raffle as well. We encourage everyone to come down and enjoy the meal with us!"The donation dinner is set for Friday, September 13th, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 2220 E. Basin Avenue. The funds raised will directly support the Nye County Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter's efforts to provide comfortable, safe sleeping spaces for children in need.Through the dedication of volunteers, the generosity of community partners, and the unwavering commitment of the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization, more and more children will be able to experience the comfort and security of a good night's sleep in their own bed. By investing in the well-being of these young individuals, the organization is paving the way for a brighter future, one bed at a time.
