Embracing the Iconic Blonde
Kennedy's fascination with Debbie Harry and the indie scene of her university days laid the foundation for her enduring love affair with blonde hair. "I've always been obsessed with Debbie Harry," she confesses. "The indie scene was huge when I was at uni, and all of the clubs would play Blondie. I was already blonde to some degree, but she made me want to go brighter and brighter – I basically just copied her and never looked back."The transformative power of her hair became a crucial part of Kennedy's identity, as she recalls a brief experiment with dark-brown locks in her twenties. "There was a moment in my twenties when I decided I wanted dark-brown hair, and it lasted about three days. I remember catching sight of myself in a shop mirror and not recognising myself – I felt like an impostor in my own body. It made me realise how much my hair is tied to my identity."Evolving the Blonde Hue
Over the years, Kennedy's loyalty to peroxide has remained unwavering, though the vibrancy of her blonde has been subtly adjusted. "What was an almost white blonde, courtesy of copious amounts of toner, has been softened with warmer honey hues," she explains. "While the shift is almost imperceptible to the casual viewer, it feels more flattering to me these days."Maintaining the perfect blonde is no easy feat, and Kennedy is no stranger to the challenges. "I return to the salon chair every six weeks to avoid root regrowth," she shares. "I used to bleach it myself, and gave myself a mullet. Not on purpose," she laughs, recalling her past DIY mishaps.Salon-Worthy Care at Home
Achieving salon-level results at home is a delicate balance, and Kennedy has mastered the art. "I'm always trying to get my hair to look sleeker," she confesses. "The bleach makes it super dry, so I definitely shouldn't wash it every day, but I just don't feel good unless I do."To combat the dryness and maintain her signature shine, Kennedy has found solace in the TRESemmé Lamellar Shine range. "I've been using the TRESemmé Lamellar Shine shampoo and conditioner, and it's really helped to restore the moisture. And the Lamellar Shine Finishing Oil is amazing – it takes away all of the wisps and flyaways and gives a really polished finish."Embracing Experimentation and Self-Expression
While Kennedy's blonde has become her signature, she looks back on her past hair experiments with fondness. "Pink, blue, lilac, a minty green that I just loved. It's fun to look back on things you thought were the height of coolness at the time. No regrets!"However, there is one look she's happy to leave in the past – her faux hawk mohican from the early Noughties. "We're not talking full punk – it was more of a faux hawk – but I had a longer top and shorter sides for a while. That's one look that's best left there, to be honest."Balancing Motherhood and Sartorial Flair
As Kennedy navigates the demands of a thriving career and the joys of motherhood, her personal style has evolved. "Now I spend most weekends at kids' parties, I take any opportunity to make an effort," she admits. For her son's recent fourth birthday celebration, she donned a "froofy" blue Molly Goddard dress, complete with her signature MAC winged eyeliner and lacquered red nails.Despite the occasional sartorial indulgence, Kennedy acknowledges the challenges of maintaining her signature look while juggling the responsibilities of family life. "I have a real tendency to get dressed up for the wrong things," she confesses. "I'm still learning to strike the right balance."
