"Helping Burleson County's Hungry Families Thrive"

Elizabeth Lutheran: Serving Up to 190 Families Monthly

Organizers at Elizabeth Lutheran report that they serve an average of up to 190 families per month. Diane Broadhurst emphasizes that the need is not limited to a specific group; it encompasses young families, large families, and the elderly. The money raised during Food for Families is crucial in supporting the pantry throughout the year. However, they face challenges such as supply issues with items like oil, flour, cereal, and pasta.

Elizabeth Lutheran, located at 165 CR 307, is committed to providing essential food items to the community. They understand the difficulties faced by many families and strive to make a difference.

The pantry's work is vital in ensuring that families have access to the basic necessities during these challenging times.

Caldwell Christian Care: An Influx of Assistance Seekers

Just a short drive down the road, Caldwell Christian Care has also witnessed a significant increase in those needing assistance. Byron Sommerlatte shares that the average number of households served per month has grown from 175 last year to 225. With approximately 650 individuals relying on their services, the need is clear.

The organization's relationship with clients is at the heart of their work. Through their client choice food pantry, they provide 75 pounds of food products to each family. Currently, they are in need of foods rich in protein like tuna and chicken, as well as other canned goods.

Caldwell Christian Care's operations are sustained by funds from Food for Families and grants, allowing them to continue helping those in need.

In God's Hands Ministry: Steadily Increasing Demand

In God's Hands Ministry Food Pantry serves up to 455 families a month and is seeing a steady increase each month. Melinda Palicka highlights the significant need in the community and the lack of resources. With the increase in visitors, they are in urgent need of canned goods, milk, and hygiene items like shampoo and deodorant.

The pantry plays a crucial role in providing support to families who are facing difficulties. Palicka is grateful for the donations received, as it helps them continue to give out essential items.

As the holidays approach, the pantries anticipate an even greater need, and they are committed to doing all they can to help.

According to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, the food insecurity rate in Burleson County is 15.1%, with a child food insecurity rate of 22%. Since last year, all three pantries have seen a 42% increase in visitors. Overall, 32% of those served through the pantries this year were children, 51% adults, and 18% were seniors. With these statistics in mind, it is clear that the work of these pantries is more important than ever.

The pantries in Burleson County are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of families in need. Their efforts are essential in addressing the growing food insecurity issue in the area.

As we enter the new year, it is crucial that we continue to support these pantries and help them meet the needs of the community.
