Bucknell Duo Honored as 2025 Patriot League Tennis Scholar-Athletes of the Year

In a significant recognition of academic and athletic excellence, Amar Tahirovic and Whitney King from Bucknell University have been awarded the 2025 Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year titles. This announcement comes after evaluations conducted by the League office. Tahirovic also earned a spot on the 2025 Men's Tennis Academic All-League Team alongside another Bucknell representative. Meanwhile, King joined five other athletes on the Women’s Tennis Academic All-League Team. These accolades underscore their commitment to both sportsmanship and scholastic achievement, adhering to stringent eligibility criteria that require a minimum GPA and prominent participation in their respective sports.

Among the standout achievements highlighted this year is Amar Tahirovic's leadership role in guiding Bucknell to its first league championship since 1991. Originating from Stuttgart, Germany, Tahirovic displayed exceptional prowess with an impressive record of 22-1 in dual matches and a perfect 9-0 in league play at No. 1 singles. His contributions were further recognized when he was named the 2025 Patriot League Player of the Year. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Tahirovic excels academically as a business analytics and German major with a 3.53 GPA. He serves as team captain and participates actively in the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute.

Whitney King, hailing from Sarasota, Florida, complements Tahirovic's achievements with her own remarkable record. As a Marketing, Innovation & Design major boasting a 3.91 GPA, she balances her studies with active involvement in community-building initiatives. King founded The Faithful One, a small business fostering mentorship through faith. On the court, she demonstrated consistent performance with a 15-7 record in singles and an 18-8 record in doubles during the 2025 season. Her career accomplishments include ranking fourth all-time in doubles wins and seventh in combined victories for Bucknell.

The selection process involved evaluations by the League’s men’s tennis sports information directors, who ensured impartiality by abstaining from voting for their own student-athletes. Both Tahirovic and King exemplify the ideals of the Patriot League, which champions the integration of academic rigor with athletic success. Their recognition adds to the pool of nominees considered for broader scholar-athlete honors awarded over the summer.

This year's honorees reflect the Patriot League's enduring commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who shine in both academics and athletics. Tahirovic and King stand as shining examples of how dedication and talent can coexist harmoniously, setting a benchmark for future generations of student-athletes aspiring to achieve similar heights.
