Fostering Confidence and Communication Skills
Natalie Johnson, a fourth-grade teacher at McEowen Elementary, has witnessed the profound impact of this partnership firsthand. Her students eagerly anticipate the monthly visits from the Culver's team, led by owner Connor Harnett and general manager Marie Arnold. These interactions provide the children with positive adult role models, allowing them to step out of their comfort zones and develop essential communication skills."The kids are so excited when they see these adults out in the community; it just gives them a more positive adult role model," Johnson explains. "It allows them communication skills, and it brings them out of their shell. They start ordering their own food and how to socialize with adults that they maybe aren't so familiar with — It's getting them to grow up a little bit."Cultivating Bright Futures: Culver's Commitment to the Community
For Harnett and Arnold, this partnership is more than just a corporate social responsibility initiative; it's a genuine investment in the future of the Harrisonville community. Harnett, the owner of the local Culver's franchise, believes that giving back to the community is a fundamental responsibility."Being part of a large organization, it gives us the ability to have a large reach and be involved in the community," Harnett says. "It's our responsibility to give back to the community, and if we don't do that, I feel like we're sitting on our hands."Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders
The partnership between Culver's and McEowen Elementary extends beyond just mentorship. It also serves as a platform for inspiring the next generation of leaders. Arnold, the Culver's general manager, is a shining example of this. Harnett has taken her under his wing, encouraging her to enter a peer ownership program through the company. In November, Arnold will complete the training to become the newest Culver's owner."I think a lot of people see from the outside is people reaching the summit or their goal," Harnett says. "What they don't see is all the hard work or hours put in to reach their goals today."Arnold's journey is a testament to the power of mentorship and the transformative impact it can have on young lives. She has witnessed firsthand the excitement and aspirations of the McEowen students, who now dream of following in her footsteps.Fostering a Positive Relationship
The partnership between Culver's and McEowen Elementary goes beyond just monthly visits. The Culver's team actively engages the students, teaching them new skills and creating memorable experiences. From playing kickball to making butter burgers, the interactions are designed to be both educational and fun."Just the fact that they come in looking for us at the store or in the community is rewarding," Arnold says. "We're here and creating a positive relationship with them."The impact of this partnership is evident in the students' enthusiasm and the growing sense of community. As the Bright Futures program continues to expand, Harrisonville School District is actively seeking new community partnerships to further enrich the lives of its students.
