Bridgewater College's Music Dept. Hosts Annual Holiday Extravaganza

Bridgewater College in Virginia is all set to bring the holiday spirit alive with its two remarkable Holiday Extravaganza concerts. These concerts will feature a diverse range of music ensembles performing familiar seasonal songs in the Concert Hall of BC's Carter Center for Worship and Music.

Friday's Concert Highlights

The first holiday concert on Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., will showcase an array of additional ensembles. The Trumpet Ensemble will add its vibrant sound, while the Chamber Strings will bring a touch of elegance. The Percussion Ensemble will create a rhythmic backdrop that will surely get the audience tapping their feet. This concert is a must-see for music lovers.

Under the direction of Dr. Ryan Keebaugh '02, the Concert Choir will kick off the evening with "Angels for the Realms of Glory" arranged by Dan Forrest. This powerful performance sets the tone for the evening and gets everyone in the holiday mood. Dr. Keebaugh will also lead the Chorale in performing "Gaudete" arranged by Brian Kay, "Silent Night" arranged by Dan Forrest, and "Echo" by Rob Dietz. Adjunct Instructor of Music Amy Robertson will accompany them on the piano, adding a beautiful touch to the music.

Saturday's Concert Delights

The second concert on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., will feature some unique ensembles. The Flute Choir will fill the air with their melodious tunes, the Saxophone Choir will add a jazzy flavor, and the BC Tuba Guys will bring a unique sound. These ensembles will enhance the overall holiday experience.

Under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, the Jazz Ensemble will perform "The Twelve Days of Christmas" arranged by Paul Clark, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" by Vince Guaraldi and arranged by Paul Murtha, and "Go Tell it on the Mountain" arranged by Mat Montgomery. At the end of both concerts, Carrillo will lead the Symphonic Band in performing "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Albert Hague and Eugene Poddany and arranged by Larry Clark, "The Polar Express" by Alan Silverstri and Glen Ballard and arranged by Jerry Brubaker, and "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson. These performances are sure to be a treat for the ears.
