This organization emerged from a critical necessity in July 2020, amidst a global health crisis and a heightened awareness of systemic racial inequalities, to address the considerable obstacles faced by these artists in gaining recognition, securing commissions, and receiving adequate support. Initially, BWP launched a crowdsourced relief fund to offer immediate financial aid to creatives impacted by economic hardship, subsequently evolving into a comprehensive platform that includes a global community, an extensive directory, and a vital resource hub. Its core mission is to dismantle entrenched systemic barriers, thereby cultivating enduring and sustainable career pathways for Black and African women creatives worldwide.
A cornerstone of BWP's initiatives is its commitment to education and professional advancement. The organization provides an array of complimentary tools and programs, such as an annual summit, webinars, workshops, training sessions, portfolio reviews, and networking events.
