Binghamton Men's Tennis Shines with Multiple Conference Honors

The Binghamton University men's tennis team has made significant strides, earning five prestigious honors within the Northeast Conference (NEC). This recognition includes three players being named to the NEC First Team and another pair receiving Second Team doubles accolades. Additionally, Head Coach Nick Zieziula was honored as Coach of the Year for guiding the Bearcats to consecutive NEC titles in just their second year within the league. The accomplishments highlight a season filled with triumphs on both individual and team levels.

Among the standout performances, William Morais Binnie, Ronin Lotlikar, and Filipe Costa have each earned NEC First Team distinctions for their exceptional contributions during the season. Both Morais Binnie and Lotlikar were also acknowledged for their prowess in doubles play. Their leadership played a pivotal role in securing key victories throughout the conference tournament. Morais Binnie, who boasts an impressive 6-4 singles record in league matches, was instrumental in leading the team through crucial encounters against Monmouth, Army, and FDU.

Ronin Lotlikar emerged as a formidable force on the court, achieving the highest number of singles wins for Binghamton this season. His consistent performance included notable victories over Le Moyne, St. Francis, Stonehill, Mercyhurst, and FDU. Recognized earlier this spring with Player of the Week honors, Lotlikar delivered a decisive victory over Thomas Linley from FDU in the NEC Semifinals, propelling the Bearcats into the championship match once again.

Filipe Costa further bolstered the team’s success by contributing seventeen singles wins, including several vital victories in conference play. Starting off the spring season with a commanding seven-match winning streak, Costa demonstrated his dominance with two remarkable performances in the NEC Championship finals. His efforts culminated in a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win against LIU, solidifying Binghamton’s place as back-to-back champions.

Kyle Weekes and James McPherson added to the team’s achievements by earning Second Team doubles honors. Their partnership showcased excellence with a stellar 7-1 record in conference action and thirteen overall wins. Their critical 6-3 victory over LIU in the championship final underscored their importance to the team's success.

With these accolades under their belt, the Bearcats are set to compete against Columbia University in the NCAA Championship First Round on May 2. Fans can anticipate an exciting matchup at the Milstein Family Tennis Center in New York City.
