For the sixth consecutive year, the Wright State University Police Department has organized a unique fundraising effort during the month of November, known as No-Shave November. This annual initiative not only raises funds for the Raider Food Pantry, but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and community within the department.

Fueling Student Success, One Donation at a Time

Stocking the Pantry with Essentials

On November 4th, the Wright State University Police Department took a trip to Sam's Club in Beavercreek, Ohio, where they filled their police cruisers with an impressive array of non-perishable goods. The haul included a variety of items, such as chicken noodle soup, beef stew, cereal, peanut butter crackers, and much-needed bottled water, all of which were then donated to the Raider Food Pantry. The total value of the donated items amounted to a staggering $1,800, a testament to the department's commitment to supporting their community.

A Department-Wide Effort

This year, the No-Shave November fundraiser saw the entire Wright State Police Department get involved. Each officer and staff member contributed $100 to the cause, with the option to either grow out their facial hair, wear colorful hair accessories, or even paint their nails during the month of November. The camaraderie and team spirit were palpable, as the department came together to support a cause that hits close to home.

Recognizing the Best Beard

Among the participating officers, Stefan Kempf was voted as having the best-looking beard by the Police Department staff. Kempf, who has been with the department for several years, understands the importance of the Raider Food Pantry and its impact on the student community. "No one is going to be studying well if they're hungry," he remarked, highlighting the direct correlation between access to food and academic success.

A Lasting Impact

Over the past six years, the Wright State University Police Department has donated more than $16,000 in groceries and monetary contributions to the Raider Food Pantry. This consistent support has been a lifeline for the pantry, which serves around 100 Wright State students every month. Tylar O'Neal-White, a student case manager in Counselling and Wellness Services, oversees the Raider Food Pantry and expressed her gratitude for the department's generosity, stating, "With them donating as much as they do, it really pushes us through to the spring semester."The Wright State Raider Food Pantry is a vital resource for students in need of emergency food assistance. The pantry is open to any Wright State student enrolled in classes for the current term, and students can schedule an appointment online to pick up the necessary provisions. This collaborative effort between the Police Department and the Raider Food Pantry is a shining example of how a community can come together to support its most vulnerable members and ensure their academic success.
