Baton Rouge witnessed an exciting event as the Knock Knock Children's Museum opened its doors to offer free admission and a wide range of health services during their Children's Health Expo on Sunday. This initiative aimed to provide valuable resources to families and promote their well-being.
Empowering Families with Free Health and Fun
Health Screenings and Flu Shots
Parents were delighted to receive health screenings and flu shots at no cost. Matthew and Ashley Carrol emphasized the perfect timing of this event, especially as the weather got colder and the risk of illness increased. "It's getting a little colder, we're seeing our first freezes, so everybody bundled up all together, spreading those germs a little more. Having health resources can prevent you from getting ill," Matthew said. These services served as a crucial preventive measure for families.Cooking Demonstrations and Healthier Food Choices
Among the available resources were engaging cooking demonstrations. The Carrol family shared their experience of learning how to prepare Brussels sprouts for their kids. "Sometimes we give them the bad stuff, but also incorporate healthier options in. Because he's eight, he makes too many of the wrong decisions. It'll be a lifelong pattern," Matthew said. "He'll never eat regular food, he'll eat McDonald's all the time if we let him." This event encouraged families to make healthier food choices and start a positive eating habit.Reliable Health Resources for the Community
Executive Director Christina Melton highlighted the significance of these services. "There are a lot of free health resources that are available to children and families in the community, and a day like this allows us to connect people with those resources," said Melton. The museum became a reliable source of health information and assistance, benefiting the entire community.Sunday's event was sponsored by Humana Healthy Horizon, adding to its significance. This collaborative effort brought together various aspects of health and family fun, making it a memorable day for all. The Knock Knock Children's Museum continues to play a vital role in promoting the well-being of families in Baton Rouge.
