Suspicious Activity Sparks Police Response

The chain of events began when officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Doverwood Drive, off of Scotland Avenue, in response to a "suspicious incident." According to the police report, an anonymous tip had alerted authorities to the presence of individuals "staging possible stolen vehicles" in the area. Upon arrival, an anonymous complainant pointed out a white Camry passing by and leaving the scene, prompting the officers to initiate a pursuit.

High-Speed Chase and Crash

The pursuit quickly escalated, with the suspects attempting to evade the police. The white Camry, which was later determined to have been stolen, crashed into a fire hydrant during the chase. Despite the collision, the three individuals inside the vehicle managed to flee on foot, disappearing into the surrounding area.

Lockdown and Ongoing Investigation

In the aftermath of the incident, the nearby Scotlandville High School was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure while the police searched the campus for the two remaining suspects. During the investigation, two juvenile subjects were detained for questioning, but it was ultimately determined that there was insufficient evidence to charge them at the time.

Suspected Involvement in Additional Crimes

The police have revealed that the alleged suspects may be linked to several other vehicle burglaries and car thefts in the area. In one of the related cases, the suspects are accused of stealing a victim's vehicle and, while fleeing the scene, firing a single shot into the air as the victim gave chase.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

The juvenile suspect who was apprehended at the scene has been charged with a range of offenses, including license plate switching, theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer, and simple possession of marijuana. The investigation into the two outstanding suspects is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the case.

The Baton Rouge Police Department has expressed its dedication to ensuring the safety of the community and apprehending the individuals responsible for these alleged crimes.
