BAFTA Film Awards 2026 Nominations Revealed

The nominees for the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards have been revealed in a much-anticipated live announcement from London. This significant event in the global film calendar spotlights cinematic excellence and sets the stage for the upcoming awards ceremony.

Actors David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood presented the shortlists during a livestream held at the British Academy's headquarters. This announcement builds on the excitement generated by the preliminary longlists, which were disclosed earlier in the month.

Several films made a strong impression on the initial longlists. Paul Thomas Anderson's political thriller, 'One Battle After Another,' garnered 16 mentions, positioning it as a leading contender. ChloƩ Zhao's Shakespearean drama, 'Hamnet,' received 14 mentions, as did Ryan Coogler's vampire feature, 'Sinners.' Other notable films with substantial longlist presence included Josh Safdie's 'Marty Supreme' with 13 mentions, Yorgos Lanthimos' 'Bugonia' with 12, and Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' also with 12. Joachim Trier's 'Sentimental Value' and Jon M. Chu's 'Wicked: For Good' each appeared eight times. Most of these films, with the exception of 'Wicked,' are vying for the coveted Best Film award, alongside 'The Ballad of Wallis Island,' 'Nuremberg,' and 'I Swear.'

The 79th BAFTA Film Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, at London's Royal Festival Hall. This year, Scottish actor, writer, and host Alan Cumming, known for his work on 'The Traitors U.S.,' will take the reins as host. Cumming follows in the footsteps of David Tennant, who hosted the previous two ceremonies. In the UK, the event will be broadcast on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer, while international audiences in the U.S., Canada, and other markets can stream the ceremony via BritBox International.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards represent a pinnacle celebration for the British and international film industries, recognizing outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera. The 2025 awards saw 'Conclave' and 'The Brutalist' each securing four honors, highlighting the diverse talent celebrated by the academy.

The announcement of the nominations signifies a crucial phase in the awards season, sparking discussions and predictions among film enthusiasts and critics worldwide. This event provides a platform to acknowledge the creative achievements that continue to shape the cinematic landscape.
