Towson University's men's basketball team has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its coaching staff, securing the services of Beruk Asfaw as the new Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations. This strategic hire is poised to elevate the Tigers' game and propel the program towards greater heights.

A Wealth of Experience and Accolades

Asfaw's impressive resume speaks volumes about his expertise and dedication to the sport. Prior to joining the Towson Tigers, he served as an assistant coach at Pacific University in the West Coast Conference, where he worked under the tutelage of head coach Leonard Perry. Before that, Asfaw spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was part of a coaching staff that guided the Trojans to remarkable success.During his time at USC, the Trojans soared to a #5 national ranking with a 13-0 start in the 2021-22 campaign. The team went on to finish the season with a 26-8 record, including a 14-6 Pac-12 mark, and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament. In the following season, the Trojans continued their winning ways, recording a 22-11 record, another 14-6 Pac-12 record, and securing another NCAA tournament berth.Asfaw's coaching experience extends beyond the collegiate level, as he also served as a consultant for the Ethiopian Basketball Federation from 2020-21 and was an assistant boys' basketball coach at Hughes STEM High in Cincinnati.

A Diverse Background and Impressive Credentials

Asfaw's journey to the coaching ranks is equally impressive. He earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Washington and recently completed his Master's Degree in international policy and management from USC in 2023. This diverse educational background, combined with his extensive coaching experience, positions Asfaw as a valuable asset to the Towson Tigers' coaching staff.
