On Monday at around 5 p.m. in Portland, Oregon, a significant incident unfolded. A man was involved in a series of events that began with a Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officer attempting to make a possible DUII traffic stop on northbound I-5 near Southeast Sunnyside Road. The officer noticed the driver weaving and nearly hitting a car in another lane, leading to reasonable suspicion of DUII and probable cause for failure to drive within a lane.
Initial Encounter and Escalation
The officer pulled the car over for the traffic stop. As he was getting ready to exit the car to talk to the driver, the suspect suddenly accelerated backward, ramming into the front of the PPB patrol car. The suspect then got out of his car and faced the patrol car, prompting the officer to draw his gun in an effort to get the suspect to comply. However, the suspect quickly jumped back into his car and sped off. Thankfully, the officer was unharmed.Chase and Second Traffic Stop
After the suspect drove away, a deputy from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) was in the vicinity and managed to make a second traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle. This led to the suspect being taken into custody without any further incidents. An Oregon State Police trooper then conducted a field sobriety test on the suspect, who was identified as 26-year-old Isaiah Woster from West Linn. As a result, he was taken to jail and charged with DUII and reckless driving.Chief Bob Day expressed his relief, stating, "I am beyond relieved that nobody in the community was hurt and our officer is okay. This incident clearly highlights the dangers our members face every day. I am grateful that the individual was taken into custody without causing any more harm."Copyright 2024 KPTV-KPDX.
