Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the NPP MP for Asante Akim North, has emerged as a key figure in the post-election discussions. His claims regarding the party's performance in the December 7, 2024, elections have sparked significant attention.

Unraveling the Impact of Ministerial Actions on Party Elections

Blame on Ken Ofori-Atta

A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi firmly believes that the party's substantial loss in the recent elections can be partly attributed to the actions of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta. During an appearance on TV3's “The Key Points” on December 14, he made this assertion. Appiah-Kubi pointed out that Ofori-Atta's growing influence led to him becoming unapproachable for assistance by NPP Members of Parliament. He stated, "Former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta grew too pompous. He was more powerful than the president and the vice president, and that was why we wanted him out." This sentiment was echoed by the fact that over 90 MPs had called for Ofori-Atta's dismissal during a time of economic hardship when their constituents were grappling with the high costs of living. However, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not take action despite these calls.

Criticism of Other Ministers

Appiah-Kubi did not stop at blaming Ofori-Atta. He also criticised other ministers for their arrogance and unresponsiveness towards MPs seeking development projects for their constituencies. He added, "I bashed some of them on our pages; some of the ministers were very arrogant." This shows the extent of his discontent with the actions and attitudes of certain ministers within the party.

Consequences and Implications

The situation highlighted by Appiah-Kubi has significant implications for the New Patriotic Party. It raises questions about the internal dynamics and decision-making processes within the party. The growing influence of certain ministers and their lack of accessibility to MPs have clearly had an impact on the party's performance at the polls. It also emphasizes the need for better communication and cooperation between different levels of the party structure. As the party looks to move forward, these issues will need to be addressed in order to regain the trust and support of the electorate.
