MUNISING, Mich. (WLUC) – On a Saturday morning in Alger County, a remarkable event took place. Sirens blared and lights flashed, marking the tenth year of a public safety can drive. Fire Departments from Munising City, Munising Township, and Au Train Township came together and roamed the streets, ready to assist families in need. Despite the rain and the cold, community volunteers went door to door, seeking canned goods donations. This selfless act showed the true spirit of the community.Helping Those in Need
Ryan “Red” Anderson, the Fire Chief of Munising’s City Fire Department, emphasized the importance of helping when people are in need. He stated, “Just like any other community, we have families here who are in need. If we can do anything, no matter how small, to help them during the holidays, we are all for it. We know that more than our fair share of people have been in need at one time or another, and it is really nice to try to give back as much as we can.” The donated food will be split between two Alger County food pantries, ensuring that it reaches those who need it the most.Volunteers from the Community
The volunteers who participated in this event were from various backgrounds. Students, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and members of the Munising boys varsity basketball team all came together to make a difference. Their dedication and willingness to help showed the power of community unity. These volunteers went above and beyond to ensure that canned goods were collected and donated to those in need.Still Time to Donate
If you missed the fun earlier, there is still an opportunity to contribute. You can still drop off food donations at the Munising Fire Department. Your small act of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of those in need. By donating canned goods, you are helping to support the local community and ensure that no one goes hungry during the holidays.
