ADAMS: Cops for Kids with Cancer Helps Solak Family in Son's Cancer Battle

On Tuesday, a significant event took place in Adams as Cops for Kids with Cancer made their way to the town. Their purpose was to present a much-needed check to the Solak family, who are currently facing the challenging journey of their son's battle with cancer.

This remarkable organization raises funds specifically to assist families whose children are struggling with cancer. After receiving a report from a social worker and thoroughly vetting the candidate family, they provide a generous check of $5,000. It's a lifeline that offers financial relief during these difficult times.Lucas Solak, a second-grade student at Hoosac Valley Elementary, is just 9 years old but has been diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This diagnosis has brought a whirlwind of challenges to his life and his family's.

Helping with Treatment Costs

The treatment for Lucas's type of cancer is a long and intensive 2-year process. It begins with a highly intensive inpatient phase, followed by different phases. Throughout these 2 years, he will be undergoing chemotherapy, with some of it done at home and some at the hospital in Boston. The family has to make frequent trips to Boston for his treatment, and the donation they received will be a great help."It will help cover the cost of gas and getting there and lodging when we need it. It's just another example of how much our community has come together. We have been so lucky to have so many people supporting Lucas and supporting all of us," said Jen Solak, Lucas's mom.

Beyond the Check

In addition to the financial support, Cops for Kids with Cancer also gave Lucas a gift bag. It included a stuffed dog named 'Trouble', a book, and some patches. These small gestures bring a touch of joy and comfort during a difficult time.The charitable organization has a remarkable track record, having given over $5 million to families in and around New England. Their work is making a real difference in the lives of these families.Lucas loves Peppa Pig and enjoys running around and playing with his friends. Despite the challenges he is facing, there is hope that he will soon be able to do these things again. The support from Cops for Kids with Cancer is a step in the right direction towards his recovery.
