In the heart of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at 2 AM, Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), reflects on the successful conclusion of the first phase of the Riyadh Season WBC Boxing Grand Prix. This event was a tribute to his father, José Sulaimán’s unfulfilled dream. Over four consecutive nights, 64 matches were held, ensuring all fighters returned home safely with unforgettable memories. It marked the realization of an idea that had been shelved years ago due to unforeseen circumstances.

For four months, a colossal multinational operation unfolded, involving recruitment, medical clearance, travel arrangements, and coordination among various entities. Fighters, trainers, officials, inspectors, promoters, and more traveled from across the globe to Riyadh. Once there, they worked tirelessly alongside local organizers, managing everything from fighter check-ins to stadium logistics. Each day saw meticulous planning, including rules ceremonies, weigh-ins, licensing, medical checks, and uniform distribution before moving to the magnificent BLVD City Global Theatre for fight night.

This grand spectacle required immense determination, passion, and dedication. Despite the exhausting work, the spirit of teamwork prevailed, supporting the boxers who trusted in this adventure. Spectacular heavyweight battles highlighted the event, leading into the next stage scheduled for June 19-21. Broadcast globally by DAZN, the event featured impeccable commentary and ring announcements, alongside top-notch medical services and commission oversight.

The Middle East Professional Boxing Commission played a crucial role, ensuring smooth operations alongside other dedicated teams. Special mention goes to the WBC staff, whose tireless efforts over four months ensured seamless coordination with local partners. A unique celebration marked the end of the final bout, symbolizing the shared joy and emotions experienced throughout the journey.

Looking ahead, the Grand Prix will continue in June, August, and October, culminating in December. This achievement fulfills Don José’s vision, supported by His Excellency Turki Alalshick, bringing professional boxing to new heights.

As dawn breaks over Riyadh, it is clear that the legacy of José Sulaimán lives on through this remarkable event, proving that dreams, no matter how challenging, can indeed come true with perseverance and collaboration.
