Nestlé Purina's Investment in Silao

In a bold move to scale up its production, Nestlé Purina is channeling a substantial CHF 200 million into the expansion of its Silao facility. This development is set to introduce a third and fourth production line for wet and dry pet food respectively, propelling the factory to become the largest of its kind in Latin America.

The investment underscores the company's commitment to meeting the burgeoning demand for pet food in the region and is a testament to the strategic importance of the Silao plant within Nestlé Purina's global network.

Mexico's Pivotal Role in Purina's Latin American Market

With Mexico accounting for nearly half of Purina's sales in Latin America, the country stands as a cornerstone of the company's regional strategy. As the fourth-largest market for Purina globally, Mexico's burgeoning economy is indicative of the potential within emerging markets for the pet food industry.

Laurent Freixe, the CEO of Nestlé's Latin American zone, has emphasized Mexico's integral role in the company's growth plans, highlighting the nation's strategic position as a hub for both local and international operations.

Silao Plant's Production Capabilities and Job Creation

The Silao plant's current operations boast an impressive array of 125 dry and 45 wet pet food varieties. The facility's workforce is set to expand, with the creation of approximately 94 new positions, as a direct result of the expansion. This growth not only benefits the company but also contributes to the local economy by providing additional employment opportunities.

Furthermore, Nestlé Purina has secured an additional 48 hectares adjacent to the existing site, laying the groundwork for future growth and the establishment of a distribution center that will serve both domestic and international markets.

Sustainability and Renewable Energy Initiatives at Silao

Over the past decade, Nestlé Purina has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to sustainability, investing over CHF 700 million in the Silao factory. The plant has achieved a milestone by transitioning to 100% renewable energy sources since 2022, showcasing the company's dedication to environmentally responsible practices.

The Silao facility also features a state-of-the-art water treatment plant, enabling the circular use of water within its operations and further solidifying Nestlé Purina's position as a leader in sustainable manufacturing.
