Bringing the Best of Both Coasts to San Diego's Doorstep

Irv's Burgers: A California Roadside Classic Comes to Life

Irv's Burgers, a California-born institution, has a rich history that dates back to 1946 when it first opened as Queen's Burgers, one of the pioneering burger stands on the legendary Route 66. Over the decades, the shop's popularity grew, and its name evolved to Irv's Burgers, cementing its status as a beloved icon in Hollywood pop culture. Irv's Burgers has long been a favorite haunt of iconic figures like Frank Sinatra, The Rat Pack, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin, who were drawn to its signature California roadside-style cheeseburgers. The brand's enduring legacy is further solidified by its appearance on the cover of Linda Ronstadt's album "Living in the USA."

Prince St. Pizza: Bringing the Flavors of New York City to the West Coast

Hailing from the bustling streets of New York City, Prince St. Pizza has earned a reputation as a culinary destination in its own right. Opened in 2012, the flagship location quickly rose to fame for its handcrafted recipes that have been passed down through generations in the founding family. The shop's signature sauces, made from the highest-quality ingredients, and its iconic fluffy dough, molded from scratch daily, have earned it a loyal following. The menu at Prince St. Pizza pays homage to its New York City roots, with offerings like the Mercer Margherita, featuring the original pizza sauce, fresh garlic, mozzarella, pecorino romano, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh basil, as well as the Prince Perfection, with marinara sauce, fresh mozzarella, and pecorino romano.

A Collaborative Celebration: The Grand Opening Block Party

To mark the debut of these two beloved eateries, Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza are inviting the Pacific Beach community to a joint grand opening block party on Thursday, July 4th, from 12-4 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary Irv's burger, fries, and milkshake combo, as well as free Prince St. Pizza slices, Peronis, wine, and Salt & Straw ice cream. The celebration will also feature live music from a local DJ, photo booths, and family-friendly entertainment, creating a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

A Shared Kitchen, Diverse Offerings, and a Revitalized Space

The new Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza locations will be situated within the Mission + Garnet food hall, a reconfigured 4,000-square-foot space that previously housed a Denny's restaurant. The Denny's location had been closed for repairs and remodeling following a suspected arson-set kitchen fire in October 2018, which caused an estimated $850,000 in damages. The restaurant never reopened, as the Denny's franchisee was unable to renew the lease. In the wake of the Denny's closure, the space has been transformed into a vibrant food hall, featuring a shared kitchen that houses a diverse array of eateries. These include Spitfire, Head Lettuce, Checkered Churros, Harvey Carvers, Earlybird Breakfast Burritos, and Scotty Dogs, offering customers a wide range of culinary options, from hot dogs and Mexican cuisine to vegetarian and healthier menu items.

Catering to Locals and Visitors Alike

The new Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza locations will cater to both local residents and visitors to Pacific Beach, providing a convenient and delicious dining experience. The restaurants will feature standing counters, as well as indoor and outdoor seating, allowing patrons to enjoy their meals on-the-go or in a more relaxed setting."We're thrilled to bring the East and West Coasts together in one spot, opening these two beloved bi-coastal restaurants side-by-side," said Lawrence Longo, the owner and CEO of Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza. "We look forward to joining the Pacific Beach community and sharing the unique flavors that have made Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza top culinary destinations. This is an exciting step forward, and we can't wait for San Diego to taste what we've been cooking up."With the debut of Irv's Burgers and Prince St. Pizza, Pacific Beach is set to become a culinary destination that celebrates the best of both coasts, offering a mouthwatering fusion of iconic flavors and a truly unique dining experience for all who visit.
